Construction Commences on the Stephenson Avenue Extension

20 August 2020

This morning, I joined Premier Mark McGowan and Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti, to break ground on Stage 1 of the congestion-busting and job-creating extension of Stephenson Avenue.

The extension of Stephenson Avenue will run from Scarborough Beach Road across the Mitchell Freeway to Cedric Street in Stirling. The project will improve access for local businesses and ease congestion on local roads like Scarborough Beach Road, Cedric Street and Ellen Stirling Boulevard meaning less time sitting in traffic and more time at home for local families.

Stage one of this important project will be built by local Osborne Park builder, Densford Civil.  Expressions of interest from industry to deliver stage two of the project are now open, with applications closing in September.

This project will create over 800 jobs during construction and enable the development of the Stirling City Centre, allowing for thousands of jobs to be created locally.

When I was elected in 2017, this project was a ‘ghost road’ which had been on the back burner for decades. In under 4 years, I'm proud to have workers on the ground and the project underway.

Once complete, the project will complement other infrastructure investments in the local area, such as the widening of the Mitchell Freeway and principal shared paths, easing congestion and allowing motorists to spend less time in traffic.
