David Michael & Mark McGowan will invest in local schools

23 February 2021

A re-elected McGowan Government will deliver improvements for all local schools across our community.

By working together, we have achieved a lot for our local schools. There’s more to do and I’m determined to keep delivering for our community. That’s why, if re-elected as part of the McGowan Labor Government, I will invest in our local schools, including a $12.8 million upgrade of Westminster Primary School.
I am determined to continue to support our local school communities. A re-elected McGowan Labor Government will:

Balcatta Primary School P&C
$20,000 for an undercovered assembly area

St Kieran Catholic Primary School P&F
$20,000 for court resurfacing

Takari Primary School P&C
$20,000 for a nature playground expansion

Osborne Primary School P&C
$20,000 for a nature playground expansion

St Lawrence Primary School P&F
$20,000 for an orchard expansion and upgrade

St Denis Catholic Primary School P&F
$20,000 for robotics learning equipment

St Gerard's Catholic Primary School P&F
$20,000 for a nature playground

Tuart Hill Primary School P&C
$20,000 for a playground upgrade, and a new science lab

West Balcatta Primary School P&C
$20,000 for playground and seating upgrades, and a new science lab

Westminster Primary School P&C
$20,000 for undercover area upgrades

Balcatta Senior High School P&C
$40,000 for gym equipment and a balcony privacy screen

Servite College
$30,000 for a car park expansion

A re-elected McGowan Labor Government will also deliver a $355 million job-creating schools package, to upgrade schools across the State and deliver quality Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in all schools, creating 1,620 local jobs. Locally, we will build new science labs at Tuart Hill and West Balcatta Primary Schools.

As part of this package, primary schools will also have access to $6.8 million worth of science resource grants to enable them to bolster their science education equipment and materials. The science resources grants will provide the following for primary schools:
  • $5,000 for primary schools with up to 50 students
  • $10,000 for primary schools with up to 100 students
  • $25,000 science resource grant or $40,000 science resource grant for schools with over 100 students that do not have space for a science room.
On top of this, Mark McGowan and WA Labor will deliver the $44.6 million Schools Clean Energy Technology package, which will go towards the installation of new energy technologies in public schools including rooftop solar systems.
These commitments build on the $492.2 million Major School Upgrade package included in the WA Recovery Plan, the $200 million High Priority Maintenance program of 2019, and the McGowan Government’s strong record on STEM in schools, where it built science laboratories in 200 public schools and launched the first-ever State STEM skills strategy.
These are exciting announcements for our local schools and if we’re successful at the next election, we will ensure that every child in our community has access to great education, from primary right through to the final years of high school.
