Containers for Change Launch

24 July 2020

In Western Australia, we use more than 1.3 billion drink containers each year. Many of these containers currently end up in litter or landfill, even though they are made from easily recyclable materials.

WA's new state-wide container deposit scheme, Containers for Change, will let you swap your eligible drink containers for 10 cents each. Containers for Change commences on the 1st of October 2020.

Introducing a container deposit scheme was a key election commitment of the McGowan Labor Government, and I am excited for it to begin in just a few months!

In preparation for the commencement of the scheme, WA Return Recycle Renew Ltd (WARRRL) will be hosting several community information sessions across the state. These sessions will provide an overview of how Containers for Change will work, and how our local community can get involved.

If you'd like to find out how to get involved and fundraise for your community group, join me at one of the info sessions in Tuart Hill - but RSVP quickly as places are limited!

DATE: Wednesday 26th August 2020
TIME: 4:00pm - 5:30pm OR 6:00pm - 7:30pm
VENUE: Tuart Hill Community Centre at Grenville Reserve

If you can't make it in person, there are also several online information sessions being held throughout August. To register your attendance for an online information session, please head here.

Please encourage other community members to come along who may be interested in
learning about the scheme and about the fundraising opportunities for local not-for-profits,
schools and community groups.

As part of the scheme, we will have three local donation points - Amelia Heights Scout Group, Stirling Paraquad Industries and the Balcatta Recycling Centre!  Further information about the scheme can be found online at www.containersforchange.com.au/wa
